During the 8th century the most famous saint 'Adi Sankracharya' had laid the foundation stone of the dwelling places of the four major Hindu deities - Ganga, Yamuna, Vishnu & Shiva. A pilgrimage to these 4 revered Hindu shrines is referred to as chota Char Dham Yatra.
According to the Hindu mythology all these destinations are associated with lots of myths & narratives. The yamunotri is associated with goddess yamuna & known as the origin of river Yamuna. Whereas the holy place Gangotri is the abode of Goddess Ganga and the well-head of river Ganga.
The other two destinations Badrianth & Kedarnath are associated with Lord Vishnu & Shiva.
The Chardham Yatra by Helicopter starts from the west to east. So, your Yatra begins with Yamunotri, proceeds to Gangotri to Kedarnath and Badrinath.
